Unique Church to Hotel conversion, exceptional breakfast.
Arrived early and they held our luggage while we went out to explore. Our room was on an upper floor, very clean, with a nice modern bath, columns and arched windows that opened to a roof area. Unfortunately, the air conditioner was not working and our room was stifling HOT. I phoned the front desk and was initially told that I was probably not turning it on correctly. I asked the clerk to come up to the room and try it herself. She arrived with a small fan in hand- she said all the other fans were already in use by others. She was not able to get the AC going and told me the system isn't working and there wasn't another room available to switch to. The room was so HOT and the sweat was just rolling off me, that I was unable to sleep. I opened all the windows, but that did little to cool the room as it was a hot summer night and the air was still.
The breakfast buffet was wonderful, delicious, and had a very wide assortment of items. The dining area was unique in that it had loads of the original church details.
All in all, a nice stay except for the broken AC resulting in a poor nights sleep. Upon checkout I mentioned it to the desk clerk, who made a tiny adjustment to my bill. I later wrote a letter to the hotel manager, who was very quick to reach out to me and rectify the situation. I appreciated his sincerity and resolution. I would stay here again in the future. The hotel's location in Mechelen was conveniently located and Mechelen was a charming historic town that had similar things as the bigger city areas, but it was more quaint, full of charm, and less crowded.

More like a musty basic motel than a hotel

Just perfect.
The room we occupied had a sumptuous stained glass window that let in a soft light on the exposed vaults.
The bedding is excellent, the cleanliness perfect.
The high quality breakfast is served in the chancel of the old church, it is surprising!
No matter how hard I look, I don't see anything negative about this hotel: an experience to do at least once in your life.

Turn-off of size
We booked our room Great via bongo. Upon arrival we wait for about ten minutes at the reception without seeing anyone. A line of check-ins as a result. The lady at the bar could only watch. The receptionist was apparently outside taking a break. I find it hard to comprehend that there is no occupation at the reception at 19:00. Eventually we are allocated a room in the church area, after first being reminded that we had booked via bongo.
The room looked nothing like the pictures on the website, no hot tub, as normally provided in a great room, decrepit doors, skirting boards, pieces from the sticky shop. The last comments apply to the entire hotel. In short, the hotel needs refreshing.
Pros:
Parking can be used all day, even if you have checked out
Good location
Breakfast was fine

Disappointed.
For that price you will definitely find better accommodation in Mechelen!
But we also let ourselves be seduced by the pictures of the rooms with the vaults. Notwithstanding advice from friends who had warned us that it was not good.
The rooms are beautiful in themselves, but decrepit. The lighting flickers at times. (after advice from the reception to tap on it they go again for a while...?!?).
Breakfast was good.
Finally, definitely not recommended, because beyond the atmospheric style of the typical rooms, this hotel is hopelessly overpriced for the condition of rooms and hotel in general.
This hotel is in URGENT need of a hallway!
