Very disappointed with customer service at the Charlemont Arms Hotel

We are frequent visitors to Charlemont Arms and go to the hotel every year as a Christmas treat. The food is always really good. However every year there is a problem with getting into the dining room as opposed to the bar area. To make sure I rang twice to ask that we were in the dining room and was assured we were in the dining room. However On arrival we were told the dining room was fully booked and we had to go into the bar area which was extremely noisy and full of revellers. We asked to speak to the manager and she refused to come out. We could clearly see the dining room had free tables. So disappointing. We won’t be back very poor customer service.

The food was ok-but the surroundings are dated

We hadn't been to the hotel in many years and decided to revisit it as it was handy to where we were. The surroundings haven't changed in many years and look very dated. We went to the bar, which was very quiet. The barman was very friendly and helpful. The pate was very nice but unusually, served in a bowl and served with a packet of butter. The main course was delicious and well-cooked.

Unfortunately our room was cold in the evening and even though we let the staff know nothing was done. Our room keys didn't work the next morning but they were quickly repaced nlby the receptionist. Hotel is showing its age but is in a great location particularly when travelling by bus. Breakfast was good - at £149 for a twin room a bit expensive but I appreciate it was the Georgian Festival weekend.

Welcoming "Arms"

We were visiting family nearby and needed a base for the week. I'm very glad that we chanced upon the Charlemont Arms when researching on-line. We stayed for 6 nights in total and ate evening meals on four of them. The food was excellent, and of very generous proportions - my wife couldn't eat all of her roast dinner on one occasion purely because of the quantity. Some reviews on here have criticised the breakfasts. Pay them no attention. Every morning the cooked breakfast was well cooked, fresh and hot. There were also cereals, toast, yoghurt and fruit juices to choose from.
All of the staff that we had dealings with were friendly, courteous and helpful. There were one or two minor items in our room that needed some attention, but nothing to detract from our enjoyment of the hospitality.
Like others, I would have no hesitation in staying here again.
