Chic hotel in a beautiful location
The hotel itself is quite quiet and makes a very good impression. The room I was allowed to move into was in the attic on the third floor and was very spacious. A very large room with a room divider, a large double bed, a couch, two TVs... Everything was neat and clean and I liked the style.
The hotel staff were friendly and attentive. Everything ran smoothly and professionally.
The breakfast room was a little cramped for the number of guests in my opinion and the breakfast itself was manageable, but of impeccable quality. For almost 180 euros per night, however, I would have expected a little more choice.
Overall, we had a relaxing stay there and were able to unwind and relax after the long days at the trade fair.

The reception staff was always friendly and cheerful. Everyone was ready to help with any question we had.
Breakfast was amazing. The selection was terrific. And every morning we were greeted by the pleasant and happy staff. One staff member told me she loves her job. Who doesn't want to stay in a hotel where the staff love working? Several days my mother who travelled with me was ill and the staff made it so easy for me to take breakfast to her in the room.
The room was terrific. We requested the accessible room and were not disappointed. Despite Ettlingen not being the most wheelchair friendly, Stadthotel Engel had every accessibility need addressed. The front entrance has no stairs. They have an elevator that stops at the breakfast room level. The bathroom in our room was wheelchair friendly with a raised toilet, fully accessible shower, and vanity that could accommodate a wheelchair underneath. We did not have a wheelchair but my mother has a walker which requires many of the same accommodations. The room has air conditioning for those who are concerned about that.
The location is amazing. From the hotel you are directly in the old city and can walk to many stores, cafes, and restaurants. The hotel entrance is located in an inside court area where there are tables that can be enjoyed during the nice weather.
