Great location

The hostel is in an excellent location with views over the harbour and within walking distance of many attractions. Due to construction, it was difficult to find the entrance as the signs pointed towards a path that was closed, but once I found the building it wasn’t much of a detour. The rooms were comfortable and clean with large lockers that had power outlets inside them, which was a nice touch. The free breakfast was also good. However, the hostel was full of families and didn’t have any common areas to socialise, so I wouldn’t recommend it to other solo travellers.

Never again

Arrogant and rude staff. I had to wait an hour to register because there was a shift change.
Then they charged considerably more than was previously stated in the booking confirmation. Simply criminal! Cash grab!
The guests had to wait a long time for breakfast...

Bad behavior, never happend to us before..staf was shouting to me friend.

Me and my friend stayed 2 nights in this hostel.during the checking we had problem they billed more then booking was showing on our reservation. We paid that(explanation wasn’t acceptable they just said its booking’s fault.
They gave us quick infos about breakfast time and place but no infos about check out time.
We had another problem when we were doing checkout.l was already out they saw me when l was throwing the used sheets and they said nothing. My friend was still in the room me and he tought time checkout at 11am. Cleaners was coming into the room and l tould them my friend is in the room and he is getting ready,l left the room.
Then another woman went to the room shout to my friend in really bad behaviour(he can’t speak german or english) l return from when l was out of the hostel.l tried to explaine she was not even letting me talk or explaine. We paid for extra 1hour late check out extra 10euros+bed behaivor and shouts from responsible lady(T….)
Also during the check in 18euros more then bookings price. We liked the hostel and the rooms but this experience made us totally soo unhappy.

Perfectly placed Hostel

This is a youth hostel with a perfect location. Landungsbruecken is directly connected so you can hop on rail, tube and ferries without much walking. The rooms are simple but clean and the sleep quality was unexpectedly great. An enormous breakfast buffet gives a good start into a day traveling Hamburg.

Hidden charges= highest price, lowest value.

I stayed here a few years ago and wasn't too impressed. The building might look nice in the pro-shot photos they have on tripadvisor, but I just didn't enjoy my stay. Still I thought I'd give them another try. Yes, yes- it was my fault for not reading all the fine print. An extra €3.50 per night membership fee, €5.50 nightly if you're over 27, €4.00 for a towel, then the city tax on top of everything. It all added up to about €40 a night for a shared dorm. I wound up cancelling and booked another place I like better. Even with the cancellation fees and new last minute booking, it didn't cost me any more than if I'd stayed at the HI.

From 1 June, new members will receive half-price membership for the current year. International guests without membership are charged EUR 3.50 per night. From the age of 27 a supplement of EUR 5.50 per night will be charged.
