Good experience

Short stay with my children in June 2024. Great location. The service is kind, and attentive, the lady spoke several languages. Room and linen are clean, the commons too. The only downside: the sink may be a little low and the taps a little old. Great location!

Good location, cozy place

I had a good experience at Viru Backpackers. The contactless check-in worked without problem. On the day of my arrival, I received the code and instructions via Whatsapp. I had booked a solo room with shared bathroom. The room was pretty nice, there was enough space and a small mirror which I appreciated. Just outside my room there was a shower with a sink. And then, in the same hallway, there was a toilet. But this room for the toilet is really super tiny, it only fits the toilet and the person. For the sink to wash your hands, you must go to the shower room. The architecture is a bit confusing but probably not their fault. Also it is not soundproof so you can hear very well what other people talk in the rooms nearby or in the living room. Thankfully the place seemed very calm and no one was talking. But then I decided not to have any phone calls with family/friends in order not to disturb others. If you plan to work from there, probably it is not the best idea. But internet works very well. I did not use the kitchen but it seemed well equipped and I saw one person cooking. The location is really very good.

Central and clean

I had a nice room overlooking the street of old town. The room was really big and had a very comfortable bed and gorgeous big windows. The common bathrooms and showers were clean every time I used them. The hostel was on the third floor, so dragging your bags up those flights of stairs can be challenging. If you have a disability where you need an elevator, while there is one in the building, you would still need to go down two flights of stairs in order to get to the hostel. But it’s a beautiful hostel and I would definitely stay again.

Good location

Viru Backpackers is located right in the old town.
The hostel is complete with an electric kettle, an oven toaster, a microwave oven, an electric cooker, a fridge, a dishwash set, cutlery/utensils, and a washing machine. It has a good wifi connection and hot shower.
The room itself is spacious. It has many shelves to put things on and ample hanging points.
The hostel is on the 3rd floor of the building. There is an elevator; but the floor nearest to the hostel where it stops is on the 4th floor. That means 2 additional short flights of stairs to reach the hostel.
Shoes were to be taken off once inside the hostel. However, we noticed the group next to our room who still had their shoes on.
Quiet time was also to be observed from 11pm to 8am. Some occupants did not respect this. Aside from that, noise such as doors closed hard could easily be heard from our room due to the building's acoustics.

Very bad

I booked a room today for two days May 15-17. The amount was 54 euros. I am satisfied with this amount, and I paid through ApplePay. But 77 euros were written off. It's over my budget. I requested a cancellation. The booking was canceled but the money was not returned. Upon arrival in Tallinn, I will definitely write a statement to the Police about this scam. I have screenshots in e. It's unacceptable to deceive people like that!
I'm from Ukraine. And I don't have much money. This difference is very significant between 54 and 77 euros. And now you do not refund me 77 euros after the cancellation. So I have to sleep outside. I will try to tell about this story in colors through my Facebook, so that people know how Ukrainians are being deceived in BOOKING.COM
