excellent food and service

Just went in for a meal and a drink at 4pm with my wife and took advantage of the lunch menu, reasonably priced. Top notch service, very friendly, real cloth napkin. excellent curry with pitta bread and side bits. Wine good too. Well done Fleece.

Upgraded room

Had an upgraded room, wasn't very clean, I'm not sure what we got extra in the upgrade, but the room wasn't very pleasant, dull and dreary, paint scraped off the doors very dusty, generally poor.
We had lunch I had a burger andy wife had an onion bhaji burger, wasn't the best tbh, my wife said hers wasn't nice to eat, mine was OK but the bugger had been made with extra lean ground beef so it was very dry, any self respecting chef would use a 15% fat mince, also the burger was small, on the bun it didn't fit to the edge so 50% of the burger was just eating bread. There was a 10% service charge added to the bill too, I was advised it can be removed but I just paid it even though I wasn't Impressed. There was no room in the bar for us have a drink, so as residents of the hotel we had to go to another hotel for a drink. I will not stay at this hotel again.

Broadly good.

Very good in most respects but a little customer care training might help a couple of staff. We arrived too early to check in on a Sunday lunch time which was fine but we were made to feel an inconvenience. Aside from that it was very good with some good staff, pleasant room and a good atmosphere.

Expensive and average about sums it up :-(

Went here for dinner with 2 friends. Have been to the fleece on multiple occasions previously for food and drinks but not for some time so had high hopes for dinner here. It was very disappointing and very expensive. Had a starter that was £8 and consisted of 2 pulled beef croquettes. They were not bad but expected more from a costly starter. Had a burger for mains and while the burger was ok I asked for some halloumi with it, pretty standard request for a burger and was told sure no problem. Came up with 3 halloumi fries in it which A wasn't what I asked for and B meant they could charge me for a portion of halloumi fries meaning the burger came to a total of over £25 for a burger with bacon and fries which is verging on extortionate. Wine was also incredibly expensive having bought 3 house white wine spritzers (the first 2 turned up with lemonade not soda) came to £33!! Will not be going back as the food and drinks is certainly not worth the very hefty price tag. Guessing they need to pay for the improvements made to venue somehow!

Stayed in: Jan 2025

Unfortunately luxury king bed room we had booked had problems with heating and the hot water so it was too cold to stay in, so we had to be downgraded to a compact double room, nice and warm by comparison, but the bathroom was through a door and down a few steps somewhat of an inconvenience by choice, evening meal although was lovely and plenty of choice for breakfast all cooked superbly so overall not a complete disaster
